Get plugged in: Momentum is growing for the March 21st March on the Pentagon. People are preparing to travel by bus, van, car, train, plane and subway from their schools and communities across the East Coast, Midwest and South to be at 23rd St. and Constitution Ave. NW this Saturday at 12:00 noon for the rally followed by the march to the Pentagon, and then to the offices of Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and KBR (the former Halliburton subsidiary).
Sign up to be part of the dramatic action being planned When we march on the Pentagon and the Corporate War Profiteers, we will be carrying hundreds of coffins representing the victims of war from Iraq to Afghanistan, Palestine, Pakistan, Lebanon, Somalia, and Yemen, as well as the U.S. GIs who have been killed. There are several ways that you can be a part of this important action: - Be part of a team that carries a coffin in the march - Bring a coffin to carry in the march - Participate in the worksession to prepare the coffins Click here to sign up to be part of this dramatic action. Volunteer on Saturday, March 21 Volunteers are needed to help out with a myriad of tasks throughout the day beginning at 5:00 am! Please come as early as you can to help out. By 7:00 am, there will be a clearly marked Volunteer Table where you can check in throughout the day to find out how you can help. Volunteers should come to 23rd St. and Constitution Ave. NW as early as they are available. The metro (closest stop is Foggy Bottom on the blue/orange line) will be opening early at 5:00 am on the 21st, so if you are coming by public transportation, you will be able to arrive very early. Events this week in DC on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday Wednesday, March 18: Attend the final March 21st Volunteer Activist Meeting to find out how you can volunteer at the demonstration. The meeting will take place at 7:00 pm at the ANSWER Office at 1247 E St. SE. This is at the corner of 13th St. and E Sts. in Southeast DC, just a few blocks from the Potomac Ave. stop on the blue/orange line. Thursday, March 19: Attend a Community Forum at Covenant Baptist Church, taking place at 7:00 pm at 3845 S Capitol St SW. The forum will feature community activists, veterans and military families to discuss what President Obama’s plans mean for the wars and occupations, and for the struggle here at home. Friday, March 20: Join fellow activists to make signs in preparation for Saturday's march (no artistic skills are required). This will also be an opportunity to sign up to volunteer on Saturday and to find out more information about the plans for the demonstration. The worksession will take place at 7:00 pm at 421 Seward Square SE (near 5th St. & Pennsylvania Ave. Southeast), metro: blue/orange line to Eastern Market. All those attending are encouraged to view this page. Essential details for bus organizers We have compiled the essential details for bus organizers on a special page on the PentagonMarch.org website. Bus drop off will be on 23rd St. north of Constitution Ave., right across the street from the opening rally site. After dropping off passengers, buses will drive to the bus parking location, which is on Potomac Ave. between S. Glebe Rd. and 27th St. in Arlington, VA 22201. Buses will pick up passengers on Crystal Dr. between 23rd St. and 26th St. after the march ends; this is just a few blocks from the bus parking. Take action: Protest postering fines In the last weeks, the ANSWER Coalition has been hit with nearly $10,000 in fines for posters announcing the March 21 National March on the Pentagon that have been put up in Washington D.C. Just today, we received another $1,650 in fines for 11 posters. We have stated that under no circumstances would we pay these illegal fines! We are urging you to click here to send a letter today to Washington DC Mayor (Adrian M. Fenty) and to the Director of DC Department of Public Works (William O. Howland, Jr.) demanding an end to the fines, harassment and repression of the anti-war movement. We have a right to publicize the March 21st March on the Pentagon. Fining the anti-war movement tens of thousands of dollars for putting up Free Speech-protected literature makes a mockery out of the First Amendment. Thousands of people have already taken action.
